How the share is measured

Section C9 of the Common Data Set reports how many enrolled first-years sent an SAT and how many sent an ACT. A student who sent both is counted twice, so C9 cannot give the exact share who sent neither.

The table therefore shows the guaranteed minimum, which is 100% minus SAT senders minus ACT senders. The true share cannot be lower. Where a school publishes an exact figure for the same class, that figure replaces the minimum and is marked exact.

Twelve schools publish both. At eleven of them the exact figure sits 0 to 2 points above the minimum. At Harvey Mudd it is 6 points above, because so many students send both tests. Read every minimum as roughly one to two points low.

The six University of California campuses are shown at 100% because scores play no part in their admission decisions.

What each column means

• Class is the entering class the numbers describe. Most are Fall 2025. A few schools have not posted a newer Common Data Set, and those rows say so.
• Rule for Fall 2027 entry is the policy for students applying in the 2026-27 cycle, taken from each school's admissions site in September 2026. Orange means optional now but required from a named later year.
• Social sciences, renowned means a university ranks in the QS 2026 world top 50 in at least two of Economics, Politics, Sociology and Anthropology, or a college is in the NSF national top 10 for graduates who go on to social-science or psychology PhDs.
• Social sciences, notable means a top-50 QS rank in one of those four subjects, or at least 30% of the school's bachelor's degrees in the social sciences (federal IPEDS completions, 2023-24).
• Admit rate is everyone admitted divided by everyone who applied, from CDS section C1, for the same entering class as the test data.
• ED admit is early decision admits divided by early decision applicants, from CDS section C21. Where a school runs two ED rounds, both are included. Non-ED admit removes the ED pool from both sides, so it shows the odds for everyone who applied any other way (early action and regular decision together). ED pools include recruited athletes and other hooked applicants, so the gap overstates the advantage for a typical applicant.
• Columns can be switched on and off. SAT sent and ACT sent start hidden.
• LAC marks the 25 schools from the US News National Liberal Arts Colleges list. NU marks national universities, with their US News 2027 rank.

The top 60 national universities run to 68 schools because ten tie at 59th. The liberal arts list ends at a four-way tie for 22nd, which makes exactly 25.
